SingTel Prepaid Roaming FAQs

I just realized that calling a Singapore mobile# using my Singapore SIM while roaming overseas is not as simple as just dialing the Singapore mobile#. It's a bit complicated than that. How SingTel does it is that, if you want to call a Singapore mobile# or other countries' phone numbers, you have to dial *131* first. In a way, this helps lower the roaming charges.

Again, this was a bit difficult to find so I am linking and duplicating this SingTel information for all roaming customers like me. By the way, I am using SingTel's hi! mobile SIM card :)

Quick Answer:

Dial *131*, followed by the (country code) e.g. 65 for Singapore and the telephone number of person you wish to contact. For example, should you wish to call the number 61234567 in Singapore, just dial the following sequence: *131*6561234567# and then press 'SEND' or call. This message will be routed back to SingTel, and SingTel will call you back within 10 seconds.

The idea is that you inform SingTel of the number you would like to call. SingTel will call that number and connect it to you, as if the call originated from you directly, which is in a way correct because you were the one who initiated the call. Gets?

5. After dialling the code for Prepaid Roaming and sending, do I have to hang up the phone?

6. When the system calls me back after I dial the code, do I have to pick up the phone?
Yes. The call will be connected to the number you wish to call only after you pick up the phone.
7. Are there any subscription charges for Prepaid Roaming?

No. The usage of the *131* code is free of charge. You only pay for successful calls made or received.

No. All outgoing calls are barred.
21. Is there a minimum balance I need to maintain?
You need to maintain a minimum balance of $8* in order to use Prepaid Roaming service while overseas. This is to ensure that your call will not suddenly terminate due to the balance being too low.
For example, if you have a card balance of $15 and make a call, this call can last as long as your card balance is sufficient for the per minute charge of the zone you are roaming in. At the end of your call, if the remaining card balance is $4, you will need to top-up before you can make another call.
* This applies to both voice calls and SMS.

No, you will need to top up your hi!Card/hello!Mobile Card first. You may purchase a top-up card upon the registration of your hi!Card/hello!Mobile Card.
24. What value-added services can I enjoy while roaming?
You can use Call Waiting, Call Hold and receive SMSes.
25. Can I see the Caller-ID or set call forward while roaming?
No. These services are disabled while roaming.
26. Can anyone deposit messages in my voicemail while I am roaming?

27. Can I retrieve voicemail while roaming?
Yes, while roaming you can retrieve old messages (deposited before you logged onto the overseas network). Just dial *131*65 1344# and wait for the system to call you back. Note that you must activate the voicemail function before leaving Singapore.
28. Since call forwarding to my voicemail is disabled when I roam, do I have to set call forwarding again when I am back in Singapore?
No, your setting for call forwarding will remain as it was before your trip.
29. Is there a customer service hotline to call when I am roaming?
Yes, you can call our 24-hour hotline at *131*6567380123# or *131*6564822800# during office hours for assistance. Please note that you will have to pay for these calls.
30. If I received an incoming call, can I re-dial that number using re-dial function: *131# or *131*0#?
No. The re-dial function only works for outgoing calls made using *131*.
31. What are the advantages of using the prepaid roaming re-dial codes?
• Hassle-free re-dialling
• Conveniently accessible from most of SingTel Mobile's roaming destinations
• No subscription fee or additional charges.
• Easy to remember: *131# to re-dial the last number or *131*0# to re-dial any of your last few called numbers.

32. Will I be able to see the telephone number of incoming calls when I am roaming overseas?
Roaming Caller ID is dependent on foreign networks and destinations. If the caller number has been marked private, receiver will also not be able to see the numbers.

  1. Hi, I just ran into your blog hoping to find an answer to my question. I just got a singtel hi! sim. I brought it to the Philippines and didn't open the packet and didn't use it til I was back in Manila. When I put the sim in my phone here in Manila, I try texting or calling a Singapore number (using 133 sequence) but it just tells me this call is not allowed. Sending a text message will tell me "operator barred".

Any light you can def on why it does that? And how can I make it work? I do have $10 in the sim so not sure why it's acting up.

    1. Sorry for the very late reply. I asked around but none of my friends or the people I know have encountered this. All of us has our SIM cards activated in Singapore first before coming back to the Philippines. So that may be the issue, if there is enough load on the SingTel sim yet it won't work. Or, it maybe that the SIM has already expired. Try to call the SingTel customer service or email them.

  2. Hi Anonymous! I haven't tried using a SingTel sim that was not activated in Singapore first. And somehow I think that is the problem with your sim card. If your SingTel hi! sim is roaming activated, you should see it as using Globe or Smart network, whichever is stronger in that area where you are located. Around Manila, it's mostly Globe. There are no other tricks, it's just as I inputted in my post.

The * means pressing * on your phone and you must include that otherwise it won't work.

  3. Hi Isay,

thank you for the reply !
I do have the globe-singtel logo showing when my singtel sim is in my phone.. but when i try to call my singtel number using my philippine number, it says "the subscriber cannot be reached".

But i had my friend try to miss call my sg sim and got through just fine.. I guess it works fine.. but not sure why it wont take my Philippines number's calls. I have about $15 in there and bonus $55 :(

    ReplyDelete
  4. I learned that the bonus does not apply when you are overseas, which is your case. This only works for SG local calls. Therefore, your SG sim would only consider the $15 regular load that you have as the real credit. You should try putting some top-up to your SG sim and I bet it would accept Philippine calls.

  5. Oh, you must make sure to dial as if you're calling an overseas phone, +65xxxxxx
