I heard similar stories from friends and other colleagues that I met over the years that proves how potent is the blessings of the dying.
Grandparents are said to have acquired wisdom and knowledge over their lifetime and part of it could be imparted in their last dying breath to the grandchildren who they want to have it. This is through the power of their last blessings. Witches on the other hand are believed to transfer their power during their last breath.
A grandfather in his last hours at 2:30am has called for his children but they didn't know he was dying and so didn't wake up. They thought he was just dreaming and talking in his dreams again. The just grew tired of the old mans complaints sometimes. Only one managed to wake up and attend to him. Grandfather was suddenly talking in a strange language while holding the hands of his son who came to his aid before dying peacefully from stroke at that very hour.
Later in life the sons grew up and built their own homes. They were all generally successful but the youngest who have always been attentive to their father has lost interest in his studies and focused on business instead. His business grew large he became very famous and had become the pillar of their family by providing for their mother.
The sons all had children who were quite successful in life too. The children all married and built their own homes as well. One thing they noticed though is that the first baby of all the newly wed couples die, either during pregnancy, before delivery, or right after being born. They first thought it was just normal miscarriage or illness until one of the grandchildren consulted a healer. The healer explained that because of their parents abandonment of their ancestors, every first child in the family is cursed to die. The next children will be fine though and it's just the first child that would have to pay the price. This would be until the 6th generation when they would have been forgiven. Unfortunately, the healer cannot tell which generation started it and it was only after tracing family histories that it was found out when it was started.
Fortunately for the youngest son, his brood and generations to come are excluded from this curse. Instead, they are blessed to be successful in life and business.
In our village in the mountains, when we hear of someone dying, specially the grandparents, aunts or uncles, everyone is required to pay a visit. Not just out of respect and love but to get their forgiveness and blessings before they leave this world. It is believed since time immemorial that the blessings of the dying goes beyond this life and holds true until the next generations to come.
