I wrote earlier how my great grandfather was one of the powerful shamans of his time and how he taught us about the god down under, the god up in the heavens, the guardians of water, the protectors of the forests, the spirit of the wind, and the spirit of animals.. Read it here if you haven't read it yet.
One of the occasions where my mother herself witnessed how unique our great grandfather was happened when she was around 16 and was helping in the farm. She accompanied great grandfather to get some young corn from those planted at the forest clearing and heard women laughing but couldn't see anyone around except her and great grandpa who is checking something at the end of the clearing.
She followed her ears out of curiosity and realized the laughter is near her. She looked around closer to where the corns are and then she saw them. Little women climbing the corn stems. They looked like very big ants to her at first, so she went and looked closer and noticed they were very much human-looking and carrying woven baskets with some tiny things on it. She then called to great grandfather who came smiling with his index finger forming a cross with his lips indicating silence.
Ushering my mom away, he told her that he's happy she can see them too. He already heard the little people laughing earlier when they arrived at the clearing but didn't tell her since she did not show signs of being able to see these creatures and he didn't want to alarm mother.
Over the years, mother seems to have lost the sight or that the fairy folks moved deeper into the forest since more people settled in the mountains and the woods were cut down. She only heard them laughing again one time she was washing sweet potatoes in the spring near our great grandfather's house but she couldn't locate them when she looked. That was before she married my father. Never since then did she hear them again no matter how hard I know she tries to listen whenever she's out alone in the forest.
Ever heard of some laughter and yet you cannot find the source? Yup, it could be them because they seem to be fun-loving creatures. Try to speak to them and see if they show themselves up.
